We couldn’t really get behind the whole letting people chat away on their cell phones during a flight proposal, but for those out there who can barely stand to be disconnected from the outside world for a few hours (let’s face it, we include ourselves in that category), JetBlue’s latest offering is a terrific option. The company has announced plans to begin implementing free in-flight e-mail and Yahoo! Messenger service, according to a post over at Engadget .

there s a reason why it s a preview version i don t think the messenger team are magicians who could just code an entire instant messaging application with all your requests in just 3 mos. cut them some slack. fine people waited for 332 days, so what? the guys in the team worked on the application for a longer time. yahoo said it was coming yeah.. but they never mentioned when.. so people don t have to complain. :)) but anyway that s most people do.

What it does have is a new interface, and it lets you organize conversations into tabs and drag and drop tabs out to create a new window. You can also keep favorite contacts by dragging them into the Windows Sidebar gadget, send enhanced emoticons, change the color of IM windows, adjust the display size of the contacts, arrange your contact list into multiple columns, and send files as large as 2 gigabytes.

Regardless of the Mac vs. PC adverts which have been seen recently, Windows Vista still has a lot going on. Hoping to gain from the Vista users out there is Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo has recently previewed a new beta version of their messenger for use with the new Windows Vista.

Since this is only a preview version intended to gather reactions from the public, it is missing many of the features familiar to previous Yahoo releases. Among these are: voice, webcam support, chat rooms, IM to SMS, IMVironments, Audibles, plug-ins, conferencing and photo sharing. Drag-and-drop sharing of files up to 2 GB is one of the features available, so photos technically can be sent.

Yahoo has announced a preview version of Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista . Although cross-protocol IM clients have the edge for those with contacts on multiple services, Yahoo’s Messenger beta for Vista does a nice job of integrating with the Vista platform and allows you to send IMs to both your Yahoo and Windows Live Messenger contacts.

Recommend article: Mountain View (CA) - Google s somewhat underwhelming chat feature inside Gmail has now been energized with integration with the most popular IM service. If you think you ve heard this before, you probably have. Google initially talked about a partnership with AOL back in 2004, and was supposed to have the deal complete by the end of last year. However, delays made it seem like the AIM integration promise would never actually come true.
